some updates:::::

So this dude named Alex asked to use some of my Montonix photos for this online magazine called Fazer.
Here's the link to that review, check it out!

ALSO:

Another guy named James has asked to use my Butthole Surfers photos in a live DVD he's making of the Toronto show. It sounds awesome, and I can't wait to see it. If for nothing else, to see how utterly dead Teresa Nervosa looked the entire time.

ONE LAST THING:

Natalie from Examiner used one of my Built To Spill photos HERE. Good article!

...I love my job at Sonic Boom so much.

10 THOUSAND WATT HEAD

What can I say? They're probably one of the most explosive bands to come out of Toronto. Derek Madison ( Grasshopper, No White God), Matt Bourassa ( Sailboats Are White, Crux of Aux), Simone TB ( Tropics, Grasshopper) and a rotating variety of other members work so well together and create such a ridiculous amount of noise and impromptu insanity that it its almost scary. What is scary/ awesome is Derek's mask though. Like..fuck. And that pig mask Matt had on? Seriously...

After The Islands, Great Bloomers

I'm not going to speak about the unfortunate circumstances that lead to my missing the Daniel Johnston show last week. Instead of getting down and out, I made it out to the second Cuff The Duke show at the Horseshoe and caught a second dose of the Great Bloomers in one day.

Here's a couple photos...

All Caps on the Islands

note: the lack of caps in this entry.

these are a little old, but I just went through an 'off' week and took some time. Also, started to watch Carl Sagan's cosmos (again. i saw it around the time he died in 1996) in it's entirety. Did you know it's possible to see what the shadow of a cube in the 4th dimension looks like, even though we can't see what the 4th dimension looks like? I'm not even kidding! Carl rules. Watch these... (30 MINUTES LATER EDIT: it's called a hypercube!! this is what i was taking about...)

oh yeah, the photos... the first band ( i saw) was wicked, they played at the apparently severely haunted lighthouse.i can't remember their name though. brian borcherdt was, as usual, quietly awesome. great bloomers were super fun to, and i liked the acoustic set... congrats on speak of trouble album guys!

Friday the 16th: Spiral Beach and Cuff the Duke

Heres some photos of Spiral Beach's instore at Sonic Boom last night. Awesome! I saw them a few months ago and wasn't too sure if I liked them or not. The music is wicked, but the chick in the band looked like a weird version of the Horrors. But whatever, they are weird and odd and strange. Dig it.

Side note: I start work at Sonic Boom tomorrow. Gonna be a gong show of fun. What hilarious pranks are the boomers gonna try to pull on me?!

---ALSO LAST NIGHT---

I reviewed Cuff the Duke at the Horseshoe for BlogTO. The review, when up, will be linked to. here's the photos in any case.( 30 minutes later update: HERE's the review..they edit the language in a weird way) Kinda weird, me reviewing that particular show... for reasons best left unsaid. But it was an exercise in audacity.

Ok so Wayne's voice is a little whiney (only sometimes) and they do sound like a " Lil' Blue Rodeo", but whatever, Paul Lowman and Dale Murray are solid. I had a good time. Greg Keelor is brilliant, and he recorded their new album, so why not give it a listen?

DANIEL JOHNSTON TONIGHT

Holiday in Harvey

I absolutely love going home for the holidays ever since my parents moved from the cold sore of Ontario (Niagara Falls) to a small little township outside Bobcaygeon a few years ago. Anytime this city gets to be just a bit too much I can disappear for a day or however long my mom can stand me. 20+ acres of backwoods forest and an insane amount of adorable forest animals to keep me occupied. Like the Red Fox who's more like a dog to my dad. Or the baby raccoon we've raised for the past few months when his family was lost. One day.... ONE day I will see one of the (apparently) many bears that live on our property and be able to snag a picture of it. Even if i have to sacrifice a couple liters of blood to get it... The nearest hospital's only an hour and a bit away...The giant Wolf Spiders can frak off though.
